If you’re looking for credibility or access to the world’s most interesting cultures — like surfing, fishing, diving, and skateboarding — Michel Murciano is as qualified a guide as you will find. Born and raised in coastal Venezuela, Michel is fluent in Spanish and spent his younger days surrounded by the sea and beach culture. These early years built a foundation that would tie Michel to the ocean, fishing, surfing, and outdoor adventure for his entire life. After a childhood in Venezuela, Michel’s mother relocated them to New York where she continued a career in fashion. In New York, Michel gravitated to the city, quickly finding himself immersed in the expansive and nuanced NYC skateboard scene while balancing his time in the ocean. Ultimately, ending up in San Diego where the fire for his passions burned brighter than ever. It wasn’t long before he realized how complementary his background and all of his passions would become.
His passions shaped his academic path taking him to the University of California at Santa Cruz where he studied Environmental Studies with an emphasis on Marine Environments and Legislation. Since then, Michel has traveled the world and spent his career connecting people to the lifestyles and cultures he knows so much about. Through a variety of mediums, Michel has experienced and illustrated these cultures for people, brands, marketing initiatives, and his own love of them. He has fused his unique background and passion for these cultures and love of storytelling into a successful career as a brand marketer and now enjoys sharing all he’s learned.

Michel Murciano started his career at Nixon — a globally recognized watch and accessories brand based in Encinitas, California. At Nixon — a brand world-renowned for top-notch marketing — Michel received the finest education in marketing. He worked closely with the VP of Marketing and brand co-founder on every consumer-facing project within the brand, giving him invaluable access to a successful business and global marketing operation. During his 12-year tenure at Nixon, Michel became the Brand & Experiential Marketing Manager. Here he was able to leverage all his experience and passions into some of the most admired advertising campaigns and initiatives in the action sports industry.
Michel then took his experiences and created his own content creation agency: TERN Creative. At TERN, Michel serviced brands in need of marketing support and access to the valuable outdoor, adventure, surf, skate, and outdoors markets. Working with an array of clients from grassroots garage startups to large corporate clients. Michel and TERN established themselves as a one-stop shop in the world of creative marketing within the action and outdoor sports world.
Most recently Michel was recruited by BD OUTDOORS — the largest saltwater fishing media group globally. BD Outdoors began as a forum-based fishing community to connect saltwater anglers and provide a home to share the latest fishing reports and news. Today, BD has grown into the leading digital media platform for all things saltwater fishing and delivers the most authentic fishing information in the form of fishing reports, fishing gear reviews, fishing recipes, saltwater fishing articles, tackle tips, and more. Michel was brought on to refine, update and deliver a modern-age approach to media. Since his adoption, the brand has grown exponentially and has had a long list of never been done's from gated content to a successful private label business. Michel curated and managed all aspects of the media group from brand tone, publishing, and category management to sales and partnerships.
Today, his life and extracurricular passions have not changed since his early days in Venezuela. Michel is still driven by a love of the ocean only now he shares this with his own young family. Michel regards himself as an expert fisherman, surfer, skater, marketer, husband, father, and lover of the path less taken.
